Sawa Sudan, in cooperation with the World Food Programme (WFP), is providing aid targeting 12,000 families in the Alamir administrative unit of Omdurman’s Umbadda locality, under the leadership of Alamir Zakaria Aldaw, Head of the Administrative Unit, and supervised by Mr. Abu AlQasim Adam AlTahir, Executive Director of Umbadda Locality.

Mr. Zakaria Aldaw is an experienced administrative officer who has served in various localities across Khartoum State. He was appointed Director of the Alamir Unit in late 2024 by a decision from the Executive Director, Mr. Abu AlQasim Adam AlTahir, who oversaw the implementation of this project and the partnership with WFP. Mr. Aldaw began working in the unit’s offices under difficult conditions, amid stray bullets, shelling, and the infiltration of terrorist mercenaries from the Dagalo family into parts of the Alamir locality, with the presence of collaborators. The Alamir unit is the oldest administrative unit and includes neighborhoods in northeastern Umbadda.

Alamir has been a stronghold of resistance since the beginning of the war and served as a protective shield for the regional military command in Wadi Seidna. Its youth have valiantly sacrificed hundreds of martyrs in the battle for dignity and honor. Mr. Zakaria Aldaw played a significant role in the humanitarian response and field coordination, working with local partners and the humanitarian aid committee to deliver assistance to families in isolated neighborhoods despite complex logistical and security challenges. Under his leadership and the supervision of Mr. Abu AlQasim Adam AlTahir, the aid is currently being distributed to 12,000 targeted families without any notable incidents—an impressive achievement.

This humanitarian campaign, launched in partnership between WFP and Sawa Sudan, is currently underway in the AlAmir unit, part of broader efforts to address the escalating food crisis in Sudan. Locally led by the Al-Amir unit, Mr. Zakaria Aldaw played a pivotal role in coordinating between the two partners and facilitating the arrival of convoys to the older neighborhoods in the area.

We urge WFP to provide emergency support to families that were unable to register. Mr. Aldaw recently returned to the Al-Amir unit under the return program launched by the Executive Director of Umbadda Locality.
